Labor Day weekend is just around the corner! How are you planning to celebrate? If you are looking for a meaningful way to spend the first day of the long weekend, mark your calendar for the 39th Annual Marty and Tom Celic 4-Mile Run. This event will be held on Saturday, September 5th at Clove Lakes Park in Staten Island, with the event kicking off at 10:00 a.m.
By running in Staten Island’s oldest race, you will have your shot to win various awards! The Dave de Franco Memorial Award will go to the first firefighter to finish. The Dan de Franco Memorial Award will be given to the first male finisher, while the first female finisher will receive the Dave Fleming Memorial Award. The top five-person men’s team and top three-person women’s team will win the Gene Spillage Open Team Award. The Steve Lauria Masters Team Award will go to the top three-person masters teams of both men and women. The top three finishers in the 10 and under, 11 and 12, 13 and 14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, and 90 and over age categories will also receive awards.
Registration for the race is $25.
After the race there will be an awards ceremony and barbecue at the Staten Island Marine Corp League Post (across the street from Clove Lakes Park).
This important event is held in memory of the two brothers. The first, firefighter Marty of Ladder 18, gave his life fighting a fire in 1976. His brother Tom was killed during the September 11th terrorist attacks. They are commemorated each year at this great event.
