Your guide to getting ready for a safe camping trip.
Can you believe summer is almost over? It seems like just days ago that we were holding our breath for the warmer season to head our way, and yet we’re already at the tail end of it! Luckily, there are still a few warm weeks ahead.
If you really want to take advantage of them, you may have plans to get into the great outdoors for a weekend of camping. Before you head out, make sure you gather the right safety gear and properly prepare with this camping guide.
- Pack An Emergency Kit: One of the beauties of camping is getting away from it all. If an emergency arises, though, you will be far from help. To ensure you can handle any situation, bring an emergency kit with you. It should be stocked with a weather radio, a Red Cross-approved first aid kit, toilet paper, flashlight and extra batteries, and nonperishable food.
- Plan Ahead: Make sure that you check the weather forecast in the week leading up to your trip and pack accordingly. If a large storm system will be rolling in, consider postponing your trip or heading to a less remote location.
- Create A Sanitation Station: At your campsite, set up an area with a trash bag, hand sanitizer, and paper towels so your family can stay clean. This is also a great place to keep the sunscreen; encourage your kids to reapply every time they wash their hands.
